Why are the elderly so vulnerable to COVID-19?

Professor Arne Akbar from University College London will address the vulnerability of the elderly to COVID-19 in a webinar organised by the British Society of Immunology. In the webinar he will discuss the immune changes that occur during ageing, resulting in the severe effect COVID-19 has in older individuals. He will discuss current hypotheses based on

Lynne Cox, Trustee of the BSRA,  has been acting as scientific advisor to the All Party Parliamentary Group for Longevity, and has now authored a key paper in the APPG major report ‘The Health of the Nation – a Strategy for Healthier Longer Lives’ (https://appg-longevity.org/events-publications – key paper I pp 72-80). This was report  was launched on 12th February with the Secretary of State of Health, the Right Honourable Matt Hancock and his opposite number Jon Ashworth.
